Advice for Policymakers – Emma

Emma wanted more postpartum visits and follow-up physio after caesarean section surgery.

Also, I think that there’s more services needed for postpartum. That six-week bonus check, we see the doctor how many times through our pregnancies, I think there’s 15 times you see a doctor to check on you and the baby. And then the second the baby’s born, you get one. “The work just started, really now? You’re recovering”. And then if you have surgery, why are you not seeing physiotherapy? You had major surgery done to the core of your body, there should be follow up services for physiotherapy. You get a knee surgery, you get, automatically you get some physiotherapy in the hospital, you don’t get anything for postpartum when you have a C-section, no pelvic floor support. You kind of have to figure this stuff out on your own. And you joke about how you pee your pants. Well, if you pee in your pants because you have pelvic floor issues that nobody talks about, nobody talks about this. You’re just going through it blind because grandma did it, and she’s fine. So there’s a lot that needs to be done for care for moms. And I think that that’s very important.
